M I N U T E S
May 21, 2020

MEMBERS PRESENT:  Bachmann, Boikess, Borisovets, Dasari, Gillett, Gould, Hunter, Matto, Oliver (Chair), Parsa, Shobut, Thompson, Van Stine

The special meeting of the University Senate Executive Committee was held on Friday, May 21, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. remotely via WebEx.

1.Chair’s Report– Jon Oliver, Senate Chair

Senate and Executive Committee Chair Jon Oliver called the meeting to order at 1:05 p.m. He thanked all for attending this special meeting of the Executive Committee. He reported on the request he received from a few senators to hold a special meeting in order to discuss the university’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  He then opened up the floor to Senator Boikess, since he was one of the aforementioned senators.

2. Open Discussion on the University Response to COVID-19 

Senator Boikess began the discussion with some points he had sent to the Executive Committee prior to this meeting. Also, Chair Oliver emailed the 2020-21 Executive Committee asking for their thoughts, at the request of Senators Boikess and Thompson. Thompson reviewed these points with the committee. 3. Collective Drafting/Editing of the Statement on University Response to Current Crisis

Senator Boikess drafted a resolution, which Chair Oliver distributed at this point for review. The committee then collectively drafted the following:

Statement on University Response to Current Crisis

This statement will be distributed to President Robert Barchi and President-Designee Jonathan Holloway for their consideration by Chair Oliver accompanied by a transmittal letter.

The statement was adopted by unanimous consent.

4. Adjournment

Meeting was adjourned at 5:00 p.m.
