CALL TO ORDER, DETERMINATION OF A QUORUM, AND CHAIR’S REPORT – Adrienne Simonds, Chair

Chair Simonds called the meeting to order at 1:10 p.m.

SECRETARY’S REPORT – Vicki Hewitt, Executive Secretary

• Agenda: The meeting agenda was approved, with the addition of one item of New Business.
• Minutes: The minutesof the Jan. 20, 2023 Senate meeting were approved as distributed by the Executive Secretary.
• Administrative Responses
  • Response to S-2110: Research Information Systems
• Communications
  • Entitlement memos were sent out in January.
  • April 28 Senate meetings will be on Zoom.
  • Reminder to log in to the Senate website for attendance and voting access.

REPORT ON UNIVERSITY FINANCES – Jonathan Holloway, President and University Professor

President Holloway then answered questions on the following topics:

• Adjunctification of the faculty
• Concerns about the accuracy of financial data
• Examples of duplicative processes proposed for elimination
• Research spending for graduate students
• Sexual assaults on campus
• The future of PTLs at the university
• Increasing the endowment
• Response to the earthquake in Turkey and Syria

RESULTS OF THE SPECIAL ELECTION FOR NEW BRUNSWICK STUDENT EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE POSITION

Executive Committee Student Representative – New Brunswick: Sonal Gahlawat, School of Graduate Studies

OLD BUSINESS

There was no old business.

NEW BUSINESS

By unanimous consent, one item of new business was added to the agenda:

A motion to refer the following charge to the Budget and Finance Committee: “Investigate and make recommendations on public declarations of conflicts of interest by politically exposed persons at Rutgers, including all members of the BoG and all those involved in significant financial decision making.”

The motion to refer this item to the Budget and Finance Committee was adopted.

SENATE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE REPORT

Vice Chair Foster reported on the February 3, 2023 Senate Executive Committee Meeting.

REPORTS OF THE REPRESENTATIVE TO THE BOARDS OF GOVERNORS AND TRUSTEES

Senator Rabinowitz reported on the Board of Governors meeting. Senator Ozel reported the Board of Trustees had not met.

Senator Rabinowitz reported on behalf of Camden Faculty. Senator Van Stine reported on behalf of Camden Students. Senator Olivera reported on behalf of Newark Students. Senator Bhuyan reported on behalf of New Brunswick Faculty. Senator Gahlawat reported on behalf of New Brunswick Students. Senator Roth reported on behalf of RBHS Faculty. Senator Ortiz reported on behalf of RBHS Students.
